Job Description

Overview Extensive Support Needs (Moderate/Severe) Special Ed Teacher K-3 We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher specializing in supporting students with Extensive Support Needs (Moderate to Severe) in grades K-3. This vital role involves designing and implementing individualized educational programs tailored to meet the unique needs of children with developmental disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, speech and language challenges, and other cognitive or behavioral conditions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in early childhood education, special education strategies, and behavioral management techniques, ensuring each student receives a nurturing and effective learning environment. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners requiring intensive support. Duties Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with state standards and tailored to each student's specific needs, including goals related to literacy, math, communication, and social skills. Deliver engaging, evidence-based instruction across core subjects such as literacy education, math, and life skills, utilizing curriculum development expertise. Manage classroom environments effectively through behavioral therapy techniques and behavior management strategies to foster positive behaviors and reduce disruptions. Collaborate closely with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, occupational therapists, and other multidisciplinary team members to support comprehensive student development. Provide direct support during early intervention activities and facilitate inclusive classroom experiences that promote independence and social integration. Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress through standardized testing, observational data collection, and progress reports; adjust instructional methods accordingly. Maintain detailed documentation of student performance, IEP goals achievement, and behavioral interventions while ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Engage in regular communication with families and caregivers to update them on progress, provide guidance on home strategies, and foster strong partnerships. Participate in professional development opportunities focused on childhood development, deaf education, working with individuals with disabilities, and innovative teaching methodologies such as Montessori or preschool approaches. Support classroom management by implementing structured routines that accommodate diverse learning styles and behavioral needs. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Valid teaching certification/license for special education at the elementary level. Proven classroom experience working with children with extensive support needs within inclusive or specialized settings. Knowledge of developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorder, speech/language impairments, and behavioral health issues. Familiarity with IEP development processes, standardized testing procedures, and curriculum adaptation techniques. Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, therapists, and colleagues. Experience applying behavioral therapy principles and behavior management strategies in classroom settings. Ability to develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate literacy education, math skills development, and social-emotional learning. Proficiency in proofreading educational materials and tailoring instructional content for diverse learners.
