The children will meet Monday through Thursday from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm. Fridays are reserved for planning the curriculum for the following week. We're looking for a teacher who believes children are capable, curious, and full of potential, and is excited to cultivate a joyful classroom rooted in inquiry, connection, and wonder. The Role You'll be the heart of our pod — designing experiences, building relationships, and helping each child find their footing as a reader, writer, thinker, and collaborator.
Responsibilities:
Support foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth in developmentally appropriate ways Collaborate closely with school partners, leadership, and families Maintain strong communication with parents regarding student growth and classroom experiences Participate in professional development and community-building activities Incorporate outdoor and nature-based learning into weekly instruction Tailor lessons to the needs and interests of the children in the learning pod Observe, document, and reflect on children's learning processes and development Day-to-Day Duties Help kids manage big emotions: You view social and emotional learning as an important part of the curriculum. When a child gets frustrated, angry, or overwhelmed you join them in co-regulating, problem solving and skill building.
Teach through hands-on discovery:
You teach reading, math, and science through games, storytelling, experiential projects, and exploration. Keep track of how they learn: You observe, document and reflect on each child's learning processes and development, making note of what they are mastering and where they need more support. You use these notes to design the next week's activities.
Build a tight-knit team:
You help the children learn how to share, listen to each other, resolve their own arguments peacefully, and celebrate each other's wins. You create an environment where everyone feels like they belong.
Partner closely with parents:
You keep a warm, open line of communication with families. What We're Looking For The ideal fit for this role: Bachelor's degree in Education or related field Valid teaching certification/license preferred but not required Expertise in reading preferred but not required Experience teaching early elementary students, preferably Grades K-1-2 Familiarity with or strong interest in the Reggio Emilia approach Passion for outdoor education, gardening, nature walks, and experiential learning Strong classroom management rooted in respect and relationship-building Excellent communication and collaboration skills Creative, reflective, and flexible mindset Is a warm, patient, and observant presence with children Communicates openly and regularly with families Open to training and skill-building with different school partners
Personal Traits and Skills:
Relationship-first behavior management: You guide behavior through clear boundaries, mutual respect, and talking things out. You focus on repairing relationships and teaching skills rather than enforcing strict compliance.
A patient presence:
You are a calm anchor when children are loud, messy, or having a hard day.
A love for the outdoors:
You are genuinely excited about getting your hands dirty in a garden, going on walks in all kinds of weather, and finding math and literacy lessons in nature.
Flexibility and creativity:
If a lesson plan isn't working, you can pivot on the fly to follow a child's sudden burst of curiosity. Clear, kind communication: You are approachable, empathetic, and professional when talking with parents, ensuring they feel connected to what's happening in the classroom.
