PROFESSIONAL ETHICS
At Tehama County Head Start we subscribe to the Standards of Ethical Behavior as outlined in the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. It is expected that all employees become familiar with the code and use it as a model for ethical and professional behavior. SUMMARY Provides instruction and plans program for children and families that meet all the requirements outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1.
Maintains and reinforces confidentiality in all areas affecting staff, volunteers, children and community. 2. Delivers a comprehensive program that fulfills all the requirements outlined in the Head Start Performance Standards. 3. Responsible to complete all required documentation. 4. Coordinates with the teacher director to implement a well rounded developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the individual needs of each child and of the class as a whole. 5. Plans and provides activities that promote the healthy, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child. 6. Relates to high-risk families and their children. Develops communication skills to insure appropriate quality services to parents and staff. Develops relationships with families and encourages them to participate in the program. 7. Conduct a monthly parent meeting in conjunction with the Teacher Director. 8. Will post lesson plans, menus, and classroom volunteer calendar on a weekly basis. 9. Networks with the community and local school system to insure a smooth transition for children and their families. 10. Addresses behavior challenges in the classroom through developmentally appropriate practices. 11. Must conduct two (2) home visits and two (2) parent conferences per year for each family. 12. Continues personal, professional development by attending workshops, seminars, and classes to promote professional growth. 13. Maintain a CUM file on each child. Will be responsible for all updates, referrals, follow-up and complete information on all the children in his/her class. 14. Maintains a neat organized classroom and provides an attractive learning environment. Is responsible for upkeep of all education equipment and materials, assisted by the Center staff. Work in collaboration with the Teacher Director on the repair and replacement of materials and in addressing safety problems in all areas. 15. Documents the progress of each child's growth and development and prepares a progress report for the CUM file, at least two (2) times per year. 16. Together with the Teacher Director, plans and implements educational field trips with input from parents. 17. In the classrooms, supervises center staff, parents, volunteers, and substitutes for teacher director when needed. Assumes responsibilities for Center operation in the absence of Teacher Director. Provides input to teacher director for staff appraisals. 18. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. One year experience working with pre-school children. 2. Supervisory experience is preferred. 3. A negative TB test is required as a condition of employment. 4. Must have knowledge of community resources. 5. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends. 6. Must have a genuine interest in children and families. 7. Must have the ability to relate to low-income families and their needs. 8. Must be able to serve children with Special Needs in a full-inclusion classroom. 9. Must work cooperatively as a member of a team. 10. Must pursue additional training/professional development Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence on the computer. Ability to speak effectively before groups of young children, parents, staff and community groups. Certificates, Licenses and Registrations Must hold a Teacher Permit or be eligible to apply at time of hire. (This qualification is generally met with 24 units ECE and 16 units of General Ed, OR an AA degree with at least 3 units of supervised field experience in ECE) Must obtain BA degree by 2013 and demonstrate on-going progress towards degree attainment throughout term of employment until requirements are met. Current 1st Aid/CPR certification. Ability to pass criminal record clearance. Valid CA driver's license with clean driving record. A current TB test and a statement of good health from a doctor are required as a condition of employment. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; climb or balance; crawl; and to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
