Knowledge of:

Current educational trends, practices and procedures of instruction, assessment and program planning for special education students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-blind State content standards and Subjects taught in District schools including mathematics, reading, writing, language arts and spelling Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct and classroom management Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures Ability to: Provide instruction, assessment and program planning for students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-blind Communicate effectively with students, staff and community members who are Deaf Monitor and evaluate student progress and behavior, maintain records and write reports Serve as an informational resource for students, parents, District personnel and community organizations Understand and relate to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing Learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives Learn department and program objectives and goals Interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others Coordinate student schedules, ASL Interpreters for students and IEP meetings with multidisciplinary teams Essential Duties In accordance with the California Standards of the Teaching Profession, teachers work under the supervision of site or central office administrators and in collaboration with their school staff, families and community and are responsible for the fulfillment of the essential duties set forth below: 1. Support School-Wide Academic Performance Goals 2. Deliver Rigorous Instruction to all Students 3. Develop a Culturally Responsive Classroom Environment 4. Improve Standards of Practice for Self and Colleagues 5. Build Connections with Families and Community to Support Student Learning Specifically, the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Teacher will: Participate in preparing Individual Education Plans (IEP) for eligible students, implement IEPs, and suggest alternate resources, programs or interventions for ineligible students Monitor and evaluate progress and behavior of eligible special education students; prepare report card grades and progress reports as appropriate Respond to inquiries and provide information, recommendations and interpretation of student records Receive and respond to referrals from faculty, psychologists, parents, administrators, physicians and other personnel Provide screening and academic assessment for special education students referred by the Student Study Team and other referring groups; interpret assessment results for team members Write behavior support plans Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to assigned activities and student progress and behavior Retrieve official records for parents and District personnel as requested. Coordinate and conduct various team meetings, and implement team recommendations as assigned and participate as a member of multidisciplinary teams Consult and collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, and other professionals, to meet students' educational needs including accommodations and modifications needed to access the curriculum Train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel Organize and conduct in-services for parents or staff as directed Coordinate schedules for assigned personnel Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software Other duties as assigned The length of the work year for all teachers is 184 days of service, except department heads and deans/head counselors have 189 days of service. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a valid Education Specialist Instruction Credential with a Deaf and Hard-of- Hearing authorization, as required by the California Education Code Section 44860, and English Learner certificate (CLAD or BCLAD) as required by Board Policy Knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf community What We Offer SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $79,468 - $131,654/annually commensurate with experience in a similar position.
