Job Description

Position Summary:
Special Education Teacher The Special Education Teacher, under the supervision of the Special Education Program Administrator, is responsible for delivering high-quality educational services to students with special needs in grades K-12. This role requires a strong commitment to individualized instruction, collaborative planning, and inclusive practices that support student success across academic, social, and behavioral domains. The Special Education Teacher works as part of a multidisciplinary team to design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), provide specialized instruction, and offer consultation to general education staff. The teacher ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a positive and supportive learning environment for all students. Essential Responsibilities + Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's unique needs, strengths, and goals. + Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and functional skills using evidence-based strategies. + Adapt and modify curriculum to meet diverse learning needs and ensure access to grade-level standards. + Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to promote inclusion and student success. + Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor progress and adjust instructional plans accordingly. + Maintain accurate records, including progress reports, attendance, and compliance documentation. + Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and professional development activities. + Utilize technology and assistive devices to enhance learning opportunities for students. + Uphold ethical and professional standards in all interactions and instructional practices. Minimum Requirements +
Education:
+ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (Master's Degree preferred). +
Certification:
+ Valid state teaching certificate as required by state and district regulations. + Preferred certifications: + Standard Elementary Teaching + Standard Secondary Teaching + Standard Special Education Teaching +
Endorsement:
Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) +
Experience:
+ Minimum of one year teaching experience in a special education setting preferred. +
Additional Requirements:
+ Compliance with all professional standards of practice. + Current CPR certification (if applicable). + TB questionnaire, PPD test, or chest X-ray (as required). + Current health certificate (per contract or state regulation). + Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements. + Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferred Skills and Competencies + Strong knowledge of special education laws and regulations (IDEA, ADA, Section 504). + Ability to differentiate instruction and manage diverse learning needs. + Excellent communication and collaboration skills. + Proficiency in data collection, progress monitoring, and reporting. + Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive tools. + Commitment to continuous professional growth and development. California Requirements + Valid Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Preliminary or Clear) from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). + Credential must include authorization for Mild/Moderate Support Needs or Extensive Support Needs, and autism services. + Completion of state-required exams and coursework (e.g., RICA, U.S. Constitution, health education, technology). + Compliance with California Education Code, IDEA, and CDE guidelines for IEPs, transition planning, and inclusive practices. + Participation in an approved induction program for Clear Credential.
