Job Description
Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Experience the rewards of supporting students' growth as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist in a collaborative and diverse school environment near San Jose, California. As a part of the educational support team, you will provide expert guidance and instruction to students with visual impairments, empowering them to navigate their world with increased confidence and independence. This full-time contract role for the 2026/2027 school year offers the chance to design tailored interventions, shape program delivery, and make a true impact in students' daily experiences. A finalized caseload will be shared within the next 24 hours, ensuring you're well-prepared to meet your students' unique needs.
Qualifications & Skills:
Valid Orientation & Mobility Specialist certification Experience working with children or youth in educational settings Strong knowledge of mobility aids, techniques, and adaptive technology Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Organizational skills and the ability to maintain comprehensive, detailed records Flexibility and adaptability to work with a variety of students and staffCore Responsibilities:
Conduct functional mobility assessments for students with visual impairments Create individualized orientation and mobility plans that promote independence and safety Teach travel skills within school, community, and public transportation environments Collaborate regularly with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary team members Monitor student progress, provide consistent feedback, and adjust instruction as needed Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of educational goals When you take on this essential role, you're not just enhancing mobility—you're fostering opportunity and self-assurance for students.
