Essential Elements:
Print Minimum Qualifications & Abilities:
Bachelor's Degree, including all courses necessary to meet credential requirements. Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned. Prior teaching experience preferred. Must have knowledge of the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Must meet highly qualified teacher requirements. Must have ELL authorization. Must be able to work effectively with administrators, staff, parents, and community.
Essential Functions:
Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Governing Board, and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available time for instruction. Provides individual and group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities being carried on simultaneously. Develops standard based lesson plans and instructional materials, and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Communicates with parents through a variety of means, and holds parent conferences to discuss the individual pupil's progress. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to ensure students have access to the appropriate kinds of social interactions, experiences, and environments that normally support healthy development. Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning through such things as displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service educational activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the methods by which he/she will be evaluated in conformance with District guidelines. Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities. Performs basic attendance accounting. Maintains grading system with substantiated grades for students. Updates required records for assigned students. Participates in faculty and/or District committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Engages and supports all students in learning through the use of the state board adopted academic content and performance standards including English Learners. Performs other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
