Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role as a Special Education Teacher supporting elementary students in North Denver for the 2026-2027 school year. Opportunities are available at multiple locations, each with its own unique community and caseload, all committed to providing robust support for students with significant needs. This full-time, on-site contract position will allow you to utilize your skills in structured learning services, affective needs, and significant support needs. Your expertise in working with children with significant autism, emotional dysregulation, and non-verbal communication will be instrumental in fostering a supportive learning environment. You'll collaborate with teams of paraprofessionals and other educators to create positive outcomes for students adjusting to their everyday school experiences.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid Colorado Department of Education teaching certification with Special Education endorsement (required). Demonstrated experience supporting students with significant autism needs; experience with AAC devices is highly valued. Skilled in building life skills and providing instructional support to elementary-aged students, particularly those in K-2nd grade. Experience de-escalating unsafe behaviors and implementing structured, data-driven behavioral interventions. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and collaborate with paraprofessionals and support staff. Comfortable developing and implementing individualized learning strategies within a center-based program setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction in Structured Learning Services (SLS), Affect Needs (AN), and Significant Support Needs (SSN) classrooms. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique requirements. Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including paraprofessionals and specialized service providers. Foster a safe, supportive, and engaging classroom atmosphere conducive to skill building and emotional regulation.
