POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Bell Summer Site Manager, the Bell Enrichment Teacher works for the YMCA of Greater Hartford and is responsible for planning daily lessons and facilitating daily instruction at the
Y BELL XL
programs. The Bell Enrichment Teacher comes in for the second half of the program day. The Bell Enrichment Teacher specializes in one or all of the following: art, sports, drama, dance, STEM, and music. Y Bell XL is a summer learning program designed to address summer learning loss for low-income children living in urban communities and thereby enhance overall youth development, academic performance, and graduation rates.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage Student behavior. Establish a safe and accepting classroom environment conductive to learning. Adhere to applicable state content standards when implementing lessons. All duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have an Associates or higher or be a college student pursuing a bachelor's or higher in education or related field. Must have at least 1 year of experience working directly with children. Experience in one or all of the following: Art, Sports, drama, dance, STEM, and music.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT
Ability to always supervise children by sight and sound. Ability to move quickly to react to safety issues in the setting (i.e. climbing, aggressive behavior). Ability to remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations (i.e. crying upset child, upset parent, or upset staff). Ability to be flexible and willing to adjust to change. Ability to move around the room to assist children and supervise children with daily activities, social interaction, physical and emotional needs. Ability to lift young children and objects (food baskets and supplies) up to 40 lbs. Ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships. The ability to use hands, fingers, and arms as well as being able to talk and hear. The ability to move from program site to branch and is required to enter all YMCA environments including, program space, buses, schools, pools, and program area.
