Aug 27, 2026 Job Description Granby Public Schools seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to join our self-contained alternative high school program (GAP) serving students in grades 9-12. This position supports students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs who require a structured, therapeutic, and individualized learning environment. The ideal candidate is flexible, student-centered, and committed to fostering growth, resilience, and post-secondary readiness. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) aligned with student goals, state standards, and transition plans Deliver differentiated instruction across content areas, including literacy, math, and life skills, based on student needs Create a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior and engagement Utilize evidence-based behavioral interventions and de-escalation strategies Monitor, assess, and document student progress; maintain accurate and compliant records Collaborate with related service providers, counselors, and administrators to support student success Communicate regularly with families/guardians regarding student progress and needs Facilitate transition planning, including career readiness, independent living skills, and post-secondary planning Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities Implement crisis intervention strategies when necessary, following district protocols Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Master's degree preferred) Valid state certification in Special Education (Grades 9-12 or equivalent) Experience working with high school students in alternative or self-contained settings preferred Knowledge of IEP development, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and transition planning Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team CT Comprehensive Special Education, Grades K-12 (#165) certification Please include a cover letter, resume and list three professional references with your application.
