Arts, Avon CT Position Purpose:
The CREC Reggio Magnet School of the Arts (RMS) is seeking a Multilingual Learner teacher to join a team of educators fully committed to the belief that every student can and must learn at high levels. RMS is a full-day interdistrict magnet school serving students PreK-Grade 5. Inspired by the Italian Reggio Emilia philosophy, the curriculum is designed to respect a child's point of view and encourage students to control the direction of their learning. MLL teachers work under the general supervision of their school principal performing the essential performance responsibilities listed below.
General Purpose:
The MLL teacher will support Multilingual Learners to gain knowledge and skills needed to increase English proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The teacher will provide individual student and small group instruction, support core content area teachers, monitor student progress, and administer federal assessments.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
The primary function of a CREC teacher is the planning for and effective delivery of instruction and assessment of student learning, in alignment with the Danielson Framework, with the incorporation of the
CREC Core Values:
Expect Excellence, Demand Equity, Act with Courage, Embrace Collaboration. In addition, a CREC teacher: Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials that support language acquisition, and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and effectively uses time for instruction. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed. Screens Home Language Surveys Identifies and assesses students for eligibility for TESOL/ Bilingual services Utilizes native language support in order to make the curriculum accessible to Multilingual Learners. Acts as a liaison between the student and other teachers, staff members and families. Administers federal standardized assessment (LAS Links). Provides guidance and professional development to teachers on strategies to support Multilingual Learners. Performs duties and tasks as assigned by the building principal or designee.
