Why You'll Love Teaching Here Small class sizes that let you actually teach. You'll know every student deeply — their strengths, their triggers, what makes them laugh, and what helps them learn. No being stretched thin across 150 faces. A team that has your back. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with clinicians, fellow teachers, and support staff who collaborate daily to adapt lessons, problem-solve, and celebrate wins together. You're never figuring it out alone. Room to grow. Ongoing professional development, training in evidence-based practices, and a leadership team invested in your career trajectory — whether that's deepening your clinical expertise, pursuing National Board certification, or growing into a lead role. Competitive compensation and benefits, including health coverage, paid time off, retirement contributions, and a 10 month school year with an optional summer. Work that matters. The progress you'll see isn't theoretical. It's a student mastering two-step equations for the first time. It's a teenager who once refused to engage, now asking to lead a lab. It's families telling you their child comes home excited about school. What You'll Do Teach math and science in ways that actually reach neurodiverse learners. You'll design and deliver individualized instruction in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, life science, earth science, biology, and beyond — scaffolding concepts, using hands-on and visual approaches, and connecting content to real-world applications and functional skills. Plan with purpose. Develop lesson plans aligned to Access Points and general curriculum standards, differentiate for a range of cognitive abilities, and use data to drive your instructional decisions. Create a classroom where students feel safe enough to take risks. Use Positive Behavioral Supports to build an environment where students can focus, engage, and grow — academically, socially, and emotionally. Collaborate constantly. Partner with clinicians to adapt lessons for students managing co-occurring anxiety, depression, OCD, or other mental health conditions. Work with fellow teachers to align approaches. Meet regularly with families to share progress and strategies. Support the whole student. Beyond academics, you'll help reinforce executive functioning, social-emotional, communication, and vocational skills aligned to each student's IEP goals. Handle the essentials well. Maintain accurate records, follow crisis intervention and safety protocols, participate in PD and team meetings, and adhere to all school policies. What We're Looking For Deep knowledge of special education theory, practice, and compliance Genuine passion for teaching math and science — and the creativity to make abstract concepts accessible to diverse learners Experience working with students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and co-occurring mental health conditions Familiarity with Access Points Curriculum and the ability to differentiate and scaffold effectively Strong written and verbal communication skills Patience, warmth, and a sense of humor — because teaching is joyful, messy, human work Willingness to collaborate closely with clinicians and interdisciplinary teams Qualifications Bachelor's degree in special education or related field from an accredited university (Master's preferred) Math or science content-area coursework, endorsement, or certification strongly preferred Valid FLDOE Teaching Certification with ESE Certification preferred Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience with students with disabilities Successful Level 2 Background Check clearance Terms of Employment 10 month position; summer employment optional Full-time (Monday-Friday) 8 AM - 4
