In this vital role, you will empower students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges. Your expertise will foster an inclusive classroom environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children's lives through innovative teaching strategies and personalized support. The main goal of a Special Education Teacher is to identify the individual needs of each child and create a healthy, inspiring and supportive learning environment. They work with many different types of children, from those who are physically disabled or sensory impaired to those with speech difficulties or autism, though they typically have the following daily responsibilities: Teaching a small group of students and individuals inside and outside of the classroom Preparing and executing lessons and resources Assessing the students' work done in class Developing and adapting individualized teaching methods that are suitable for each of their students Using special tools and equipment provided to stimulate an interesting learning environment Using special skills to teach children Braille, sign language or lip reading Collaborating with the Class Teacher and Lead Teacher to build a better learning environment for the children Updating parents on their kids' progress and giving recommendations to promote a better learning environment at home Key Responsibilities Assess students' abilities and craft teaching plans Adapt learning materials to students' needs Keep track of and reflect on students' progress Monitor children's behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions if needed Find engaging activities to teach skills (e.g. drawing and theater drama) Manage classroom crises and resolve conflict Prepare students for transition to the next grade Inform parents about their children's performance and potential problems Coach/mentor other professionals who work with children with disabilities Collaborate with the support staff (e.g. school counselors and speech therapists) to create holistic intervention plans
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Comprehensive knowledge of content, curriculum, teaching methods, and related statutes, laws, and regulations Knowledge of Exceptional Student Education programs, the various disabilities, and their impact on student learning Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws related to Exceptional Student Education Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process Ability to use evidence-based classroom and individual behavior management strategies and techniques To share your interest in this position, please send your resume via email at recruitment@academica.org and use ESE Teacher Mater St. Cloud in the subject line
