Job Description

Position Summary The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction and maintaining a positive, safe, and productive learning environment during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute will follow lesson plans, manage student behavior, and ensure continuity of instruction while upholding the mission, vision, and expectations of Somerset Academy Wellington. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Follow the lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher. Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment. Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records. Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures. Supervise students throughout the school day, including transitions, lunch, recess, and dismissal when assigned. Communicate effectively with school administrators, staff, and students. Adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners when appropriate. Leave detailed notes for the regular classroom teacher regarding completed lessons, student behavior, and any concerns. Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school operations. Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration. Qualifications High school diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred. Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred. Strong classroom management and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and families. Demonstrates professionalism, flexibility, and reliability. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to manage a classroom effectively. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Proficiency with classroom technology is preferred. Commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
