200-Day Contract, Full-Time Job Summary:
The Itinerant DHH/AU Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) and/or students identified with Autism (AU) across multiple school sites within the district. This position is responsible for delivering individualized instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with school staff and families, and ensuring access to the general curriculum through appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specialized supports. The teacher will travel between assigned schools as part of their daily responsibilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and support to students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and/or students with Autism across multiple school locations Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet the unique communication, sensory, behavioral, and learning needs of students Support communication development, including use of sign language, visual supports, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and assistive technology Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate accommodations and access to curriculum Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding DHH and Autism-related strategies and supports Conduct ongoing assessments and maintain accurate documentation of student progress and services Participate in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and multidisciplinary team meetings Implement evidence-based instructional and behavioral interventions, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies when appropriate Support positive behavior interventions and individualized behavior plans Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs Coordinate services with related service providers such as speech-language pathologists, audiologists, occupational therapists, and behavior specialists Maintain compliance with all state and federal special education regulations (IDEA) Travel between assigned schools as required Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and district initiatives Perform other duties as assigned by administrationQualifications:
Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate in Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Multi-Categorical Special Education with DHH/AU endorsement, or equivalent certification Knowledge of instructional strategies for students with hearing impairments and autism spectrum disorder Experience with assistive technology, AAC systems, and/or sign language preferred Strong understanding of IEP development and special education compliance requirements Ability to work effectively across multiple school settings Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Ability to provide both direct instruction and consultative services Patience, flexibility, and commitment to supporting diverse learnersPhysical Demands:
Ability to travel between multiple school sites Ability to work with students in a variety of classroom and service settings Ability to lift, carry, and manage instructional materials and assistive devices Ability to support students with varying levels of physical, behavioral, and communication needsSalary:
