Special Education Teacher Elementary
SY 2026-2027
This is a Full Time Special Education position. The GLOBE Academy is a K-8 charter school on two campuses that opened in 2013 and fosters Global Learning Opportunities through Balanced Education, serving students from all over DeKalb County, GA. With a focus on dual-language immersion, an experiential-learning model and a constructivist approach, GLOBE inspires students to be high-performing lifelong learners equipped to make a positive impact in the world. The GLOBE Academy is currently seeking a Special Education teacher for elementary grades who are looking for the opportunity to continue the traditions we have initiated, to help build a program in a supportive and collaborative environment that values the arts, diversity, and world cultures, and to add to our team of dynamic educators. Job Description Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Educate special education students with various disabilities including learning disabilities, slow processing, ADHD and/or Autistic Spectrum Disorder using 1:1, small group pull-out instruction, and collaborative models
  • Assist in classrooms within the inclusion model.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with parents/guardians, general education teachers, administrators, special education teachers, and other service providers regarding the instructional program and student progress in a dual language immersion environment.
  • Develop lesson plans utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to improve student achievement in a general curriculum; identifying instructional materials; assessing equipment needs to augment instruction; maintaining student data; and promoting positive student behavior.
  • Prepare relevant paperwork and scheduling and leading IEP meetings in a timely manner.
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals regarding students' educational programming.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional learning activities.
  • Ability to develop and maintain systems to monitor overall student progress and specific progress toward achieving goals through formal/informal assessments, and data collection.
  • Responsible for quarterly progress reports, chairing annual review meetings, and writing Individual Education Plans. Qualifications
  • Special Education Certification required
  • Orton Gillingham/multisensory experience preferred
  • Reading Specialist Endorsement preferred
  • Elementary school experience preferred
  • Must have knowledge and experience in differentiating instruction and matching intervention to meet the individual needs of special education students within a dual language immersion program.
  • Must be able to work in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment.
  • Knowledge or proficiency in speaking Mandarin, French, or Spanish is a plus
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PERMITS
  • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate special educational field at level T-4 or above required.
  • Valid Professional Standards Commission approved special education endorsements required.
