Full Job Description Special Education Teacher Reports To:
Principal and Special Education Director General:
Special Education teachers are responsible for both co-teaching in regular education settings and case management for special education students. Special Education teachers manage all aspects of the IEP process including the facilitation of IEP meetings and parent communication. Teachers work as a team member within the classroom, across the grade level team, and vertically with other grade levels. Teams of teachers will have the opportunity to plan together, attend professional development together, and perfect their craft as educators.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability to effective provide case management for special education students. GA Certification in Special Education or equivalent concentration At least 3 years special education teaching experience in a public school preferred
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Responsibilities:
Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment. Employs special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. Instructs students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques such as phonetics, multi-sensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and to meet students' varying needs and interests. Teaches socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students' individualized education programs (IEPs) by employing techniques in an overall positive behavioral support system. Accommodates the general education curriculum for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to learn in an arts-infused environment. Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students. Meets with parents to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their individualized educational needs. Confers with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students' educational, physical, and social/emotional development. Maintains accurate and complete student records and prepares reports on children and activities, as required by laws, school policies, and administrative regulations including, but not limited to GoIEP. Develops plans for effective communication, monitoring, and follow-up of students in inclusive classroom settings. Provides crisis intervention, as needed, for students. Assists in collection of data for providing appropriate classroom interventions. Plans and facilitate IEP meetings. Assists in preparation of data for local, state, and federal reports. Maintains professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
EVALUATIVE OVERSIGHT AND ACCOUNTABILITY
 Special Education Teachers reports directly to the Principal and the Special Education Director  The Principal and the Special Education Director evaluates the Special Education Teachers on the successful execution of Goals as designed above using, but not limited to the following:  TKES  Special Education Director Adopted Tool as Aligned to the CPF and Other Metrics  Organizational Performance Instrument.  Others as Mutually Defined Prior of Academic Year The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties that may be assigned or skills that may be required Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities by the building administrator(s) through TKES and other tools adopted by leadership and aligned to CPF and Other Metrics.
