About the Role Friendship Forest Academy is seeking a thoughtful, skilled lead Teacher to support our community of neurodivergent learners. We are a neurodiversity-affirming school, which means we presume competence, honor each student's profile, and design learning environments that support regulation, autonomy, and access to learning. This is a full-time, in-person position working with a small group of students in a highly individualized setting. Our teachers deliver instruction across subject areas while maintaining clear communication with students, families, and staff. Our school program focuses on academic development, self-awareness, self-advocacy, and preparing students for the transition into high school while respecting how each student learns. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Collaborate with the Director to design and implement curriculum and instructional plans based on student learning profiles, assessment data, and classroom observations Develop and implement Individualized Learning Plans across classroom and sensory environments Deliver explicit, systematic literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading, including phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension, and provide targeted intervention based on student data Plan and deliver instruction aligned with the Georgia Standards of Excellence, adapting content to meet individual student needs across subject areas Differentiate instruction and use flexible, structured teaching strategies to support a wide range of learners while maintaining high expectations Provide individualized academic and social support to promote independence and readiness for high school Create and maintain a classroom environment that supports intellectual, social, emotional, and sensory needs Ensure student safety at all times and provide supervision and support during daily routines, including toileting and personal care as needed Implement neurodiversity-affirming practices, including presuming competence, honoring communication differences, supporting multiple forms of expression, and responding to behavior by identifying underlying needs rather than using compliance-based approaches Build and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, and staff through clear and consistent communication Monitor and document student progress using formal assessments, classroom data, and ongoing observation Provide instruction across a range of grades and developmental levels (K-12) as needed, based on individualized student placement and program needs Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate student placement and consistent progress Participate in professional development, staff collaboration, and required school meetings Perform additional duties as assigned, aligned with student needs and the overall functioning of the school Work Schedule and Benefits Full-time position, Monday through Friday School hours are 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, with additional time for planning and collaboration Participation in school events, conferences, and monthly after-hours staff meetings is required Benefits include: Health insurance Dental and vision insurance Paid time off Paid sick days Competitive salary based on experience Supportive, collaborative team environment Opportunities for professional development Qualifications and Skills (Required) Prior teaching experience Strong teaching and communication skills Experience working with neurodivergent students Knowledge of best practices in literacy and math instruction Alignment with neurodiversity-affirming practices and philosophy Ability to teach across a range of grades and developmental levels (K-12) as needed, based on individualized student placement and program needs Education and Licensing Requirements Bachelor's degree in education or a related field Valid teaching license or certification is required (Georgia certification preferred) Physical Demands This role requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, move throughout the classroom and outdoor spaces, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. The position may involve bending, kneeling, or crouching to support students in various environments.
