Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Hearing-Impaired Special Education Teacher with the appropriately aligned consultative descriptor and content descriptors will provide direct instruction for students who have an IEP and who receive services through the Program For Exceptional Children at the involved schools in the district.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Teaching Tasks Provides Instruction Teaches at an appropriate instructional level Provides content development Builds for transfer Assesses and Encourages Student Progress Promotes student engagement Monitors student progress Responds to both adequate and inadequate student progress Supports students Manages the Learning Environment Uses time efficiently Maintains effective physical setting for instruction Maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom Virtual Duties and Responsibilities Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Platform in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills Uses a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks Participate in professional learning to enhance ability to provide engaging online instruction a. Participate in required Professional Learning that leads to virtual teaching endorsement Clearly articulates deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely mannerESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Teacher Duties and Responsibilities Follows professional practices consistent with school and district policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents Is available to students and parents for conferences according to district policies Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications Maintains confidentiality of students and students' records Works cooperatively with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents Complies with school, district, and state administrative regulations and Board of Education policies Conducts Annual Reviews in accordance with established procedure. Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline Is punctual Provides adequate information, plans, and materials for substitute teacher Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly Attends and participates in faculty meeting and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy Complies with conditions as stated in the Contract of Employment Demonstrates professional practices in teaching Recommends changes in students' placement when appropriate. Works in cooperation with general education school personnel in the response to intervention process and in the diagnosis and placement of exceptional children. Makes personal contact with all general education teachers through consultation or co-teaching instructional models who serve students with disabilities. Provides these teachers with information that will help them accommodate and or differentiate instruction for students. Models correct use of language, oral and written Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content Implements designated curriculum Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities Assumes responsibility for supervising students in out-of-class settings Other Duties Performs other duties as required based on the specific content area taught (such as content-area competitions, after-hours activities, and so on). Plans and coordinates purposeful assignments for paraprofessional(s), other supporting staff, and volunteer(s), and provides input to the administrative staff on the performance of these individuals. Performs other duties as required by the District, the school, or student need.MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge regarding adolescent growth and development. Knowledge of school administrative functions and finance preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, computer hardware and software operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence. Ability to write lesson plans, syllabus, and other school related materials. Ability to speak effectively and demonstrate a pleasant telephone voice. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use a computer. Considerable knowledge of PC operations and software (Word processing, database and spreadsheet) Ability to be a liaison with other professionals, such as social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists; liaising closely with parents and guardians Itinerant Personnel Keep the Program For Exceptional Children Office informed of specific daily schedules Assure that all principals have current and accurate copies of entire schedule. Sign in and out of buildings. Take ½ hour for lunch. Itinerant staff members are expected to eat in school lunchrooms unless the principal involved allows teachers to eat elsewhere on campus. Itinerant teachers are not to stop at restaurants or conduct personal business between scheduled visits at schools. Submit expense forms monthly.CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Georgia Driver's License Ability to obtain clearance certificate from GaPSC. Meets Georgia state certification requirements in Special Education.Salary/Terms/Benefits:
190 day work year. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Adopted Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
