3 years of professional, non-teaching work experience in a STEM field. For this role, STEM fields are defined as: a) Natural, physical, and life sciences, b) Mathematics, statistics, and data science, c) Engineering (any discipline), d) Healthcare and health sciences, e) Information technology, software development, and cybersecurity, or f) Manufacturing and other industries employing a skilled technical workforce.Required Skills Qualifications:
In-depth knowledge related to their identified area of expertise. Successful candidates will have effective communication and collaboration skills, an eagerness to work with students and other teachers, and a curiosity for learning about teaching as a professional. Through the Residency, residents will develop knowledge of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and effective instructional practices. The candidate will be expected to develop the capacity to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues.Primary Responsibilities:
STEM Residents primary responsibility is to collaborate with their mentor teacher and contribute positively to their host classrooms and school. This includes designing, developing, and teaching AKS-aligned lessons. The STEM Resident will contribute positively to an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The Teacher Resident must perform these duties in collaboration with the mentor teacher of record unless specified otherwise. Program & Certification Commitment.Before the program:
Successfully complete the GCPS application and hiring progress, including a background check and fingerprinting.During the program:
Complete the GACE Ethics for Teachers assessment. Attend identified professional development sessions related to the STEM Residency. Maintain a mutually agreed upon employment status with GCPS for three additional years after the completion of the STEM Residency. Successfully complete the GACE content exam for your selected content area Demonstrate acceptance into an educator preparation program (Teach Gwinnett, MAT, etc.) Instructional Planning & Delivery (STEM Focus) Demonstrate command of the STEM subject being taught Develop and prioritize short- and long-term instructional objectives based on the district AKS curriculum.
Physical Demands:

The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
