Position Summary:
The 9-12 Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in a high school setting. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff, and ensuring that all students have access to a meaningful and appropriately challenging curriculum. The ideal candidate is student-centered, collaborative, and committed to helping all learners achieve success both academically and in preparation for post-secondary life.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations Provide direct instruction in both resource and inclusive classroom settings based on student needs Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum, modify instruction, and support inclusive practices Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction accordingly Conduct formal and informal assessments to inform instructional decisions and document student growth Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress reports, IEP updates, and compliance records Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, including communication with families and multidisciplinary team members Support the development of students' academic, social, and behavioral skills Implement behavior intervention plans and provide support for students with behavioral needs Prepare students for post-secondary transition, including college, career, and independent living skills Communicate regularly and effectively with students, families, and staff Serve as a case manager for assigned students
Qualifications:
Valid teaching license with endorsement in Special Education (or ability to obtain) Knowledge of
IDEA, IEP
development, and special education compliance requirements Strong collaboration and communication skills Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs Experience with behavior management strategies and intervention planning preferred Commitment to building positive relationships with students and families
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Experience in a high school special education setting Familiarity with inclusive practices and co-teaching models Ability to use data to drive instruction and decision-making Strong organizational and time management skills Student-focused mindset with a belief in growth and potential for all learners
Work Environment:

  • The assignment of an employee to a different job classification, grade level, subject area, building, or School District shall be considered a transfer. Notification of Vacancies
  • A notice of a vacancy created within the AGWSR District shall be emailed to all employees 8 days prior to being posted publicly Filing Requests
  • Employees who desire a change in grade level, subject assignment, and/or job classification, or who desire to transfer to another building may file a written statement of such desire to the Superintendent within 5 days of the position being posted for staff.
The written request, stating what position you are wanting to transfer to, must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on the 5th day of the posting. Procedure
  • No action shall be taken to fill a posted vacancy from outside until all requests for voluntary transfer (received within the time frame) have been given serious consideration.
An employee who desires a voluntary transfer will be required to have a formal conversation with administration. No such request shall be denied arbitrarily, capriciously, or without basis in fact. If a teacher is denied a transfer, reasons for the denial shall be presented to the teacher, in person, within (3) days (of the end of the internal filing period) and before posting publicly.
