Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact in elementary special education by guiding and supporting students with diverse abilities. This contract-based opportunity focuses on cross-categorical programming for grades 1-2. You'll help students thrive academically, behaviorally, and socially by tailoring instruction to a wide range of needs, including a higher percentage of learners with autism. As a key educator, you'll lead customized lessons aligned with grade-level standards while also addressing individualized IEP goals. The role uses structured teaching techniques, visual and sensory supports, and behavior and social-emotional interventions to ensure every learner is set up for success. You'll collaborate closely with related service professionals throughout the school day to maximize student progress.
Qualifications:
Valid licensure in Special Education Experience with elementary (grades 1-2) cross-categorical classrooms preferred Familiarity with autism support strategies and structured teaching Knowledge of instructional differentiation and IEP development Strong communication and collaborative skills Responsibilities include: Designing and delivering lessons that blend grade-level curriculum with targeted IEP instruction Implementing behavioral and social-emotional interventions Incorporating structured, visual, and sensory supports into daily activities Collaborating with aides, 1:1 support staff, and related service providers Tracking and reporting on student progress and adapting instruction as needed Fostering an inclusive, supportive classroom environment You'll have the support of classroom aides and, when required, individual support staff to address each student's unique needs.
