Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference this school year by supporting the growth and daily success of middle school students in an intensive communications program. In this full-time contract role, you'll provide direct instruction and interventions to a small classroom serving students with Autism and Intellectual Disabilities, focusing on functional and life skills essential for independence. You'll collaborate with two dedicated paraprofessionals and utilize a Unique Learning curriculum, incorporating practical, hands-on experiences such as cooking, laundry, and frequent field trips into your daily lessons. This is a fantastic opportunity for educators passionate about functional programming and fostering student independence in an engaging, supportive environment.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Current LBS1 and PEL—please attach a screenshot of your license by adding a blank page to your resume Demonstrated experience supporting students with Autism or working in functional/life skills classrooms Familiarity with Unique Learning curriculum is a plus Passion for making a positive impact with students' functional communication and independence Excellent collaboration and communication abilities
Responsibilities:
Deliver instruction and adapt materials to individual abilities and IEP goals Guide and supervise paraprofessionals in supporting student needs Foster a classroom environment focused on both academic and life skills development Incorporate real-life experiences such as mini-kitchen tasks, laundry simulations, and field trips Maintain documentation and provide progress reports on student outcomes Collaborate with teams and families to support student growth This full-time, 35 hour-per-week position begins August 14 and extends through November 1, with possible extension. You will play an essential role within a caring school community and help foster independence for students with diverse learning needs.
