The Transition LBS1 Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction to young adults (ages 18-22) with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities who require a highly structured, supportive learning environment. This role focuses less on traditional vocational training and more on building functional life skills, independence, and daily living competencies. Special Education Teacher Job Description Supervise both on-site and off-site programming for small groups of students while mentoring, advising, job coaching and providing support. Staff will be responsible for managing behavior while also collecting data to provide for the team and annual IEP goals. Classroom programming includes sensory, communication, and behavioral support systems which are integrated within the environment to meet the individual needs of the students. Curriculum includes a combination of functional academic learning, daily living skills, and vocational programming that is individualized based on student needs. Many Transition students have graduated from high school with S.E.A.L. and continue on with our Transition and Vocation program. Primary Duties Design and implement lesson plans based on student ability levels and needs as outlined in IEPs, including both on-ground livign skills as well as off-grounds community integration lessons. Manage classroom behaviors with the help of support staff and the SEAL behavioral points program. Work with a team of Transition staff, counselors, paras, etc. Collaborate with counselors, SLP's, and OT's to support the students and identify areas of need. Assess and collect student data specific to academic and behavioral goals. Prepare documentation for and participate in IEP meetings. Prepare documentation for report cards and quarterly goal updates. Participate in weekly Professional Learning Communities. Job Details Full-time salary position with benefits (BC/BS health/dental/life insurance, 401K/Match opportunities, Aflac available, PTO, tuition reimbursement) Monday - Friday 8:00AM-3:30PM Academic calendar plus 3-day/week summer school session Locations in Lombard, Romeoville, Elgin and Yorkville.
