Position:
A Success Academy Teacher is responsible for providing support and assistance to all students (and families) who have not been successful in a traditional classroom setting. Through small group, individualized and blended instruction, teachers guide and encourage students through the process of making positive choices about their education. Teachers will also assist in developing, implementing and analyzing data that will assist the ALOP team in identifying and resolving barriers to promotion and graduation.
Responsibilities:
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Operates with general direction from the ALOP Coordinator and functions as an integral part of the ALOP team and the home school team in supporting and implementing program initiatives. Supports the ALOP Coordinator in the decision regarding the operation of the ALOP program and is an active and productive member of the site team. Plans, organizes, and implements differentiated instructional practices and strategies, specifically those that support a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Effectively use curricular resources and delivery methods to promote student achievement and foster student engagement in the learning process. Develops strong relationships with students and families. Fosters a safe and productive learning environment for all students and follows guidelines for addressing/reporting student celebrations, Student Success Plans, and other issues and incidents. Maintains regular attendance, punctuality, and professionalism.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution. Must meet professional teacher education requirements for the state of Illinois with High School Secondary Education endorsement. Valid secondary (6-12) endorsement teacher certification. Special Education LBSI endorsement preferred. ESL endorsement preferred. Must have strong relationship skills. To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative if the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Knowledge of:
Relevant technology; Curriculum, content areas, and various instructional approaches; Computer assisted instruction, teacher led instruction, and small group collaboration.
Skills in:
Using a computer and related software applications; Working with students with diverse needs; Oral and written communication, instruction, curriculum, conflict resolution, multi-tasking, problem solving, decision making, and organization.
Ability to:
Know and understand district, state, and national content standards; Be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives; Prioritize so that deadlines are met.
