EDUCATION
Career and Technical Certification and any requirements needed to teach dual-credit courses through Illinois Central College or other community college affiliations.
POSITION GOAL
To teach criminal justice courses
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide quality instruction in a one-year or two-year criminal justice program, both theoretical and practical.
Understand and teach the following:
Introduction to the Criminal Justice System Crime data collection Factors influencing crime History of the law and law enforcement Courts, juries, and trials Punishment and sentencing Juvenile justice system Introduction to Police Operations Police history and organization Police culture, role, and discretion Operations and investigations Community policing Homeland security Computers and technology Introduction to Corrections Sentencing and probation Jails and prison populations Federal and state prisons Prison security Parole and re-entry programs Legal issues in prison Introduction to Investigations History of investigations Investigative process Evidence and crime labs Interviewing and interrogations Crimes against children Various investigations Provide continuous evaluation on an ongoing basis to students, offering constructive feedback to students to help them improve their skills. Implement the policies and procedures in place for the school. Maintain safe and sanitary practices followed for all students, instructors, and guests. Maintain student records and other paperwork associated with the course. Teach to all levels of student abilities and adjust subject matter as required. Project a professional image at all times. Other duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS
  • Knowledge of skill-building courses, including the fundamental concepts, knowledge, safety protocols, and hands-on techniques and skills needed for a variety of criminal justice careers.
  • A commitment to educating students in the field of criminal justice, providing students with knowledge of criminal justice occupations and many aspects of the law, law enforcement, and corrections.
  • Use of lectures, guest speakers, visits to law enforcement agencies, and interactive exercises, providing students with "real life" experiences in the criminal justice field.
