OVERALL AREA
Provide the instruction, support, and experiences for students with special needs, who participate in the Transition Program. Instruction will be provided across all environments including the classroom, community, and job site. The focus of the program is to further develop employability, daily living, self-determination, and interpersonal skills that lead to a successful transition to adult life within the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design, revise, and maintain instructional programs that guides the learning process toward the learning objectives of the program and aligns with student IEP goals/objectives. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior. Design, revise, and maintain a class schedule consisting of activities developed that supports the learning objectives of the program and aligns with student IEP goals/objectives. Activities should be planned across environments, including the classroom, community and place of employment, and aligned to skills being developed. Coordinates school and community work-based or volunteer learning opportunities. Teach lessons to develop pre-vocational skills to students. Monitors student job performance and progress made on goals to be reported each reporting period. Participate in Transition Planning meetings and implement movement to adult services for exiting students. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Demonstrate team leadership skills for a group of paraprofessionals. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
Qualifications Skills and Abilities:
1. B.S. in Education 2. Valid Indiana Teaching license in Special Education 3. Must have excellent organization and communication skills. 4. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
