Job Description

Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist supporting learners from PreK through 12th grade. This contract opportunity begins August 10th, 2026 and continues through May 24th, 2027, offering a consistent and rewarding schedule of 30-40 hours per week. Working with a manageable caseload of 8 students, you'll collaborate with educators and families to ensure each student has the resources, encouragement, and specialized instruction needed for success.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Certification and/or licensure to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, or eligibility to obtain Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across multiple age groups (PreK-12) Strong skills in designing and implementing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities used by students Compassionate approach, excellent communication, and collaboration skills Adaptable to the diverse needs of students and committed to fostering an inclusive environment
Responsibilities:
Provide direct instruction and support to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in accordance with IEP goals Develop lesson plans tailored to students' unique communication, academic, and social needs Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to promote student growth and well-being Monitor progress, maintain documentation, and participate in IEP meetings Advocate for accessibility and integration of assistive technology as appropriate Offer guidance and training to staff on best practices for supporting DHH learners
