Special Education Teacher (Grades 9-12)
Location:
Paris High School, Paris, Kentucky Position Summary Paris High School is seeking a highly qualified, student-centered Special Education Teacher (Grades 9-12) to provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction and individualized support for students with disabilities. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with Kentucky regulations while delivering high-quality instruction that accelerates student achievement and prepares students for postsecondary success. This position requires a strong commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and data-driven instruction within a high school setting. Minimum Qualifications (Kentucky Requirements) Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate (or eligibility) Certification in Special Education (LBD preferred for high school) Compliance with 704 KAR 3:370 and KDE certification standards Bachelor's degree required (Master's preferred) Primary Responsibilities Instruction and Student Support Provide standards-based instruction aligned to Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Deliver specially designed instruction (SDI) based on student needs Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including co-teaching and resource settings Utilize evidence-based instructional practices to improve literacy and math outcomes IEP Development and Compliance Write, review, and revise IEPs, ensuring: Measurable goals Aligned services and accommodations Accurate present levels of performance Maintain compliance with state and federal timelines and documentation requirements Facilitate ARC (Admissions and Release Committee) meetings Data-Driven Instruction Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments Use tools such as diagnostics, benchmarks, and classroom data to adjust instruction Maintain accurate records of student performance and intervention outcomes Collaboration Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and co-teaching models Work closely with administrators, counselors, and related service providers Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs Behavior and Classroom Management Implement positive behavior supports and intervention strategies Create a structured, safe, and inclusive learning environment Support students with social-emotional and behavioral needs Compliance and Professional Responsibilities Ensure compliance with all Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) regulations Participate in PLCs, professional development, and school improvement efforts Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards Preferred Qualifications Experience in high school Special Education (Grades 9-12) Experience with co-teaching models and inclusion classrooms Knowledge of transition planning and postsecondary readiness Experience using progress monitoring tools and data systems Key Skills and Competencies Strong instructional planning and differentiation skills Ability to analyze and respond to student data Excellent communication and collaboration skills Commitment to high expectations for all students Ability to manage compliance while maintaining instructional focus Working Conditions Full-time, school-based position May include co-teaching, resource instruction, and case management responsibilities Requires organization, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities Compensation and Benefits Salary aligned with the Paris City Schools salary schedule Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System (KTRS) benefits Opportunities for professional growth and leadership For more information, please contact: William Wade, Principal, Paris High School
