- Teach academic classes as assigned by supervisor including reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
- Ability to adapt lessons for ELL population.
- Create curriculum to supplement in person instruction.
- Utilize research-based practices, current instructional methods, and current materials to ensure effective instruction.
- Possess the ability to teach in a correctional setting and interact with an adult incarcerated population with possible medical, psychosocial, or educational deficits.
- Work with the Education Division and administration staff to deliver specialized instruction in a secure setting.
- Complete daily attendance and update student case plan as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Award Earned Good Time and complete performance ratings on time each month, and other time sensitive documentation for program completion as directed in SOP.
- Complete the required 40 hours of training within the fiscal year as well as maintaining a current MA teaching license.
- Administer standardized testing to students including
TABE, TABE
CLAS-E, HiSET and HiSET qualifying exams as needed on the tablet and paper/pencil.- Maintain student education files: perform monthly purge, process incoming and outgoing files, and update incarcerated individual educational documentation as needed.
- Track EGT for academic boosts.
- Identify and recruit potential incarcerated individual class participants when necessary.
- Schedule incarcerated individuals for academic testing and meet with students to determine appropriate placement, as needed.
- Determine student eligibility for placement in educational programming based on program participation history, current assessment scores, program requirements and interest, as needed.
- Maintain and review educational program waitlists, as needed.
- Utilize an informed understanding of current educational assessments to provide educational instruction.
- Maintain a record of professional development and DOC training attended.
- Illustrate a comprehensive and current knowledge of DOC policies and procedures.
- Engage in Division priorities to enhance the progression of strategic goals, and collaborate with other professionals, both inside and outside of the Education Division, to contribute to the goals of the Division.
- Interact and communicate with staff and incarcerated individuals in a professional manner while always utilizing appropriate boundaries.
- Report any security related matters to their supervisor promptly, in addition to managing assigned classroom in accordance with institutional rules and regulations.
- Responsible for any other duties assigned.
