All Facilities Milford, MA Apply Duties:
_Travel is expected to all DOC facilities, Northern and Southern Sectors._- Develop and conduct special education instructional professional development for all teachers in the Education division as needed.
- Teach/Co-teach academic classes at various facilities including ABE, ESL, PreASE and/or ASE, with a strength in Special Education preferred. Classes may be departmentalized to include Reading, Language, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
- Coordinate and complete all documentation needed for testing accommodation and work with test examiner to ensure materials are submitted in a timely fashion prior to a student needing to test.
- Review and collaborate on research-based practices, current instructional methods, and current materials to ensure effective instructional practices across the division.
- Create Student Support Teams (SST's) to review case plans.
- With Data Analyst, maintain all Special Education Data and produce, distribute, and maintain regular reports.
- Possess the ability to teach in a correctional setting and interact with an adult incarcerated population with possible medical, psychosocial, or educational deficits.
- Work with Education Division and administration staff to deliver specialized instruction in a secure setting.
- Responsible for completing student attendance daily and updating incarcerated individual case plan as required by Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) including the awarding of Earned Good Time and completing performance ratings on time each month and time sensitive documentation for program completion as directed in SOP.
- Responsible for completing the required 40 hours of training within the fiscal year as well as maintaining current teaching license.
- Administer standardized testing to incarcerated individuals including
TABE, TABE
CLAS-E, HiSET and HiSET qualifying exams as needed.- Maintain incarcerated individual education files: perform monthly purge, process incoming and outgoing files, and update incarcerated individual educational documentation as needed.
- Identify and recruit potential incarcerated individual class participants when necessary.
- Schedule incarcerated individuals for academic testing and meet with incarcerated individuals to determine appropriate placement as needed.
- Determine incarcerated individual eligibility for placement in educational programming based on program participation history, current assessment scores, program requirements and interest as needed.
- Maintain and review educational program waitlists as needed.
- Address incarcerated individual Case Plan referrals to academic and vocational programming within 30 days as needed.
- Utilize an informed understanding of current educational assessments to provide educational instruction.
- Maintain a record of professional development and DOC trainings attended.
- Illustrate a comprehensive and current knowledge of DOC policies and procedures.
- Engage in Division priorities to enhance the progression of strategic goals, and collaborating with other professionals, both inside and outside of the Education Division, to contribute to the goals of the Division.
- Interact and communicate with staff and incarcerated individuals in a professional manner whilst always utilizing appropriate boundaries.
- Responsible for reporting any security related matters to their supervisor promptly in addition to managing their assigned classroom in a manner consistent with institutional rules and regulations.
- Responsible for any other duties assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
Applicants must have at least a Bachelor's Degree. Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in adult education. Working knowledge of educational tests and assessments. Ability to work with incarcerated individuals, teaching staff and administration. Experience teaching Special Education preferred. Experience teaching adult learners.Comments:
