Position:
Research & Technology Teacher Summary:
The New Bedford Public Schools seeks an innovative, motivated technology teacher who will teach students to effectively integrate technology for the purpose of enhancing learning across all content areas and supporting the Common Core State Standards.
Responsibilities:
The teacher designs curriculum and lessons that draw interdisciplinary connections between all content areas as a core for research projects based on students needs and interests. Teach introduction to the research process including connecting prior knowledge, collaborating, making connections and predictions, building background, exploring resources, generating questions, skimming and scanning, making inferences, distinguishing between facts and opinions, identifying key words, establishing a purpose for writing, summarizing and organizing information, note-taking, avoiding plagiarism (paraphrasing, quoting, citing sources, bibliography), and creating a product/presentation Teach technology and 21st Century presentation skills such as basic keyboarding skills, internet safety, proper documentation of sources, assessing the credibility of resources, gathering, summarizing, and presenting information, using applications in the Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel and Power Point. Effectively and creatively use and teach students to use Promethean Board/Smart Board. Create a safe, purposeful classroom environment that prioritizes learning. Collaborate with other teachers and instructional leaders to ensure instruction is meeting the needs of all students. Assess students appropriately, gather and analyze data to determine appropriate next steps. Ensure that instruction meets the needs of all students, including students with special needs, English Language Learners, and advanced learners. Communicate regularly with families to solicit input and share academic progress. Participate in regular professional development.
Qualifications:
Minimum of Bachelors degree in Communications or other technology related field. Certification or ability to become certified as a technology teacher. Knowledge in the area of research and technology. Well-versed in four main content areas Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science. Well-versed in middle school (Grades 6-8) Common State Standards and Massachusetts Technology Standards. Expertise in application of Microsoft Suite. Knowledge of Promethean Board.
