Technology and Engineering Teacher

REPORTS TO:
Principal
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaches engineering and problem-solving skills to middle school students in technology context. Connections are made with students' math, science and English/Language Arts classes through the engineering design process. The teacher facilitates project work activities that encourage creative problem-solving techniques and cooperative learning. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepares for classes assigned.
  • Sets and maintains standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media
  • Implements by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Technology/Engineering for the current school year who is fluent in aligning curriculum to the Digital Literacy and Computer Science standards for grades 7-8.
  • Curriculum may include topics such as Architectural Design, Wood Work, Engineering Design, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Robotics; duties include incorporation of online platforms to support instruction as needed.
  • Assisting in other duties as determined by the Principal
  • Knowledge of current Massachusetts Frameworks expectations for Reading and Writing across the curriculum.
  • Deep understanding of science and engineering practices to develop students' ability to apply their knowledge and skills to analyze, explain and design solutions for the world around them.
  • Knowledge of best practices for assessing student progress toward achievement of Technology/Engineering standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree and DESE Licensure in Technology/Engineering, 5-12
  • Excellent communication skills
  • SEI endorsed
  • Approved CORI and Fingerprinting results
