Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Bi-County Collaborative is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Life Skills Teacher to lead programming for students ages 18-22 with moderate to severe disabilities in our Walpole location. This position focuses on helping students gain independence through instruction in daily living, job readiness, social skills, and community integration. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with transition-age youth and has experience supporting individualized goals for post-secondary success.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that align with transition goals in employment, education, and independent living
• Provide direct instruction in functional academics, daily living skills, vocational training, money management, health & safety, transportation, and social skills
• Facilitate community-based instruction (CBI), including job site visits, public transportation practice, grocery shopping, and other real-world experiences
• Coordinate with families, job coaches, employers, and adult service agencies to support student transition outcomes
• Use evidence-based strategies for teaching life skills and managing behavior in accordance with students' individualized needs
• Maintain accurate records of progress, attendance, and behavioral data; contribute to quarterly reports and IEP documentation
• Supervise and collaborate with classroom paraprofessionals and job coaches to provide consistent support
• Ensure a safe and structured learning environment that fosters independence, dignity, and self-advocacy
• Provide instruction in community settings and accompany students during off-site activities
• Support students with assistive technology, adaptive equipment, and augmentative communication tools
• Attend IEP meetings, staff development, and district training related to special education and transition services

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required - Master's degree preferred
• MA teaching license in moderate special education with secondary endorsement preferred
• Experience working with students with intellectual disabilities, autism, multiple disabilities, or other developmental delays

Desired Qualifications:

• Prior experience working with students with life skills/transition focus
• Experience implementing all parts of the IEP process
• Understanding of special education regulations and laws
• Strong understanding of transition law, guardianship, and post-22 transition process
• Experience with vocational education, community-based instruction, or adult transition programs
• Knowledge of supported employment practices and familiarity with agencies such as Department of Developmental Services

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Active, hands-on role that includes standing, bending, and moving throughout the day
• Requires travel within the community (transportation for students typically provided by the collaborative)
• May require lifting or assisting students with physical needs or adaptive equipment & daily living skills
