Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract A high school special education teaching opportunity is available for the 2025/2026 school year. This contract position focuses on delivering specialized instruction within a life skills classroom designed to support students' individual needs and promote their independence and growth. The role involves direct, in-person engagement with a small caseload of four students, providing a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on each student's educational journey.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students' life skills requirements. Collaborating closely with paraeducators assigned to the classroom to ensure consistent support. Monitoring and assessing student progress, adapting instructional strategies as needed. Maintaining compliance with state educational standards and documentation requirements. Participating actively in team meetings and parent communications to support student success.
Qualifications and experience desired:
Maine 282 certification in Special Education is required. Previous experience working in a life skills classroom or special education setting, preferably in a high school environment. Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with paraeducators, students, and families. Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom atmosphere that fosters student growth.
