Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a difference every day by supporting young learners, grades K-2, as a Special Education Teacher in a contract role serving elementary students with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD). This in-person opportunity is designed for a dedicated educator with a passion for fostering growth in a supportive, inclusive classroom environment. You'll be guiding approximately 20 students, tailoring instruction to meet their unique needs and creating a positive, engaging atmosphere where every child can thrive.
Requirements and Preferred Experience:
Valid Maine teaching license for Elementary age groups is required Experience in Special Education, especially with SLD (Specific Learning Disability) Proven ability to develop and implement IEPs effectively Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in early childhood education Strong collaboration and communication skills with staff and families Comfortable working onsite with young children who require hands-on support
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction and individualized education plans for a caseload of around 20 K-2 students Adapt lessons and curriculum to ensure accessibility for children with learning differences Track student progress, document growth, and provide regular updates to families and the school team Participate in IEP meetings, multidisciplinary planning, and staff collaborations Foster a safe, supportive, and stimulating classroom environment Utilize evidence-based strategies and interventions aligned with best practices in special education Enjoy the rewards of seeing your students achieve new milestones as part of a committed educational community.
