Westbrook Regional Vocational Center Westbrook School Department is seeking a full-time, dynamic, innovative, student-centered educator to lead our CTE Exploratory Program for the 2026-27 school year. About the Position As the CTE instructor, you will guide high school students through a 175-hour rotational program introducing them to four high-interest career fields: Building Trades, Business, Culinary Arts, and Small Engine Repair. This role is ideal for a tradesperson longing to make a difference by opening pathways for students to explore and discover career pathways. If you do not have a CTE teaching endorsement, you can still apply! We will provide the time and backing necessary to get the proper credentials. This unique teaching position is designed for a dynamic individual who is passionate about hands-on learning, who thrives in an active, project-based environment, and who enjoys working across multiple disciplines. The instructor will also demonstrate the importance of continuing education in the field to stay current with local trends in the industry and the assets of being reliable, honest, and dependable. The curriculum pathway allows for personal embellishment while following State learning requirements. You will also work with exceptional colleagues in a supportive, authentic learning atmosphere. Qualifications:
Must hold a CTE instructor endorsement in one of the four subject areas (Building Trades, Business, Culinary Arts, and Small Engine Repair/Automotive), or a (700) Industrial Arts/Technology Education Teacher Certificate Engages and inspires high school students with varying interests, skills, and learning styles Promotes respect for all students and colleagues, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment Cultivates positive relationships with students through patience, strong rapport, integrity, and a commitment to student success Embraces a growth mindset, demonstrating a willingness to learn, reflect, and continuously improve instructional practices Ensures a safe learning environment and reinforces industry-standard safety practices Maintains strong classroom management and organizational skills in an active, lab-based setting Partners and communicates effectively with families, colleagues, school counselors, and community/business stakeholders Supports diverse learners by adapting curriculum and instruction for special education, 504, multilingual learners (ML), and gifted and talented (GT) students in accordance with established guidelines Models reliability, honesty, and professionalism in all aspects of the role Incorporates employability skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving into instruction Leads hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, industry visits, and collaborative projects with local businesses Builds and maintains relationships with business leaders and industry professionals to enrich learning and expand student opportunities Stays current with industry trends and brings real-world relevance into the classroom Utilizes technology to enhance teaching and learning Commits to pursuing and obtaining appropriate CTE certification/endorsement, with district support if not already certified About the School Westbrook Regional Vocational Center (WRVC) is a collaborative Career and Technical Education (CTE) school with nearly 400 learners and 25 staff. Our 16 programs serve 11 sending schools and offer cutting-edge, rigorous, and relevant CTE learning that prepares students for a wide range of high-wage, high-skill, high-demand careers. CTE programs at WRVC blend content with real-world applications and live work-based learning to prepare students for college and career pathways. Students work in collaborative teams to develop solutions to authentic problems and learn how to implement protocols and procedures in the classroom and the field.
