The following is a list of qualifications for the position, any one of which may be waived by the Board in exercising its prerogative to determine qualifications.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Posses a current, valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with certification at appropriate level. Posses a special education certification. Posses current, valid professional licensure, if appropriate. Have work experience with children with disabilities, preferably those with severe learning disabilities, cognitive impairments or on the autism spectrum. Possess a willingness to work with other teachers, collaborate and align instructional practice, and coordinate daily instruction between all practitioners. Possess a willingness to commit to professional development opportunities. Demonstrate proficiency with instructional techniques such as: Use of ongoing assessment information to differentiate instruction. Use of active learning, manipulatives and visual displays to scaffold students' understanding of concepts and numerical relationships. Strategic use of classroom conversations through which students construct meaning and understanding.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate maintenance of student IEP goals/objectives, including self-care and communication. Facilitate program activities and student engagement. Direct Teaching Assistant staff as needed. Implement student BIPs, Health Plans and Communication plans, etc. Complete pre/post assessments. Collect data for targeted goals and objectives and share summary with Fall teacher. Communicate regularly with student's parents. Regular and reliable attendance. Other related duties as assigned.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Read, write and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students and administrators. Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Add, subtract, and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.REASONING ABILITY
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. OTHER SKILLS andABILITIES
Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds. Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
