We will provide developmentally appropriate programs that focus on each child's growth and development physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively for children of all ages. Our goal is to provide exceptional care for children in a traditional preschool setting. St. George Preschool offers the Great Start To Readiness Program (GSRP), funded by the State of Michigan to children who are prioritized into the program. The Lead Teacher position we are looking to fill would be within a GSRP classroom. The GSRP Lead Teacher position will be expected to maintain the required records to ensure grant compliance through the MiLEAP Implementation Manual, with the GISD through the CLASS (Classroom Assessment Scoring System), through High Scope Curriculum planning, the COR assessment tool and be able to meet all state licensing and state food program guidelines. The GSRP Lead Teacher is responsible for working in a team with all classroom teachers, in providing a quality educational program for preschool children through planning, assessing and instructing students and their families.
This person will:
Develop daily lesson plans and provide children with developmentally appropriate experiences. Document children's daily progress by observing and recording weekly anecdotal notes using the Children Observation Record (COR). Observe, evaluate and assess children's performance, behavior, development and physical health. Support student growth physically, emotionally, and developmentally. Communicate with parents daily at drop off or pick up or the ClassDojo app and regarding children, their growth and development. Create and publish weekly lesson plans, weekly ClassDojo updates and a monthly newsletter. Meet with parents & families to discuss an individual child's progress and needs, determining the best ways to promote their learning and development through (2) home visits, (2) parent/teacher conferences and (2-3) family involvement events (sometimes after school hours) scheduled throughout the school year.
Qualifications:
Experience teaching preschool aged children is preferred. Experience with HighScope Curriculum, COR Advantage & CLASS is preferred. Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities. Demonstrates a strong work ethic with dependable, reliable and consistent daily attendance. Must be able to obtain Michigan Child Care Licensing Background Check clearance (including fingerprinting). Have, or be willing to independently obtain, current CPR and First Aid. Must be protective of sensitive/confidential information of children and their families.
Requirements:
A valid Michigan teaching certificate and an Early Childhood Education (ZA) or Early Childhood -General and Special Education (ZS) endorsement OR Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Development or Childhood Education with a specialization in preschool teaching. The transcript will document a major, rather than a minor, in child development or early childhood education.
