Multiple full-time contract positions are available, working in self-contained or resource classrooms serving K-12th grade across a vibrant urban district. You'll play a key role providing instruction and support to students with cognitive and/or emotional impairments, collaborating closely with a dedicated team of professionals—including paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, and special education peers.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Learning Disabilities (LD) endorsement preferred; Emotional Impairment (EI), Cognitively Impaired (CI), or MDE Endorsement ZA (Early Childhood) with another area in special education are highly valued. Experience supporting students in urban educational environments is strongly preferred. Understanding of both Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE) and relevant federal IDEA regulations. Comfortable managing caseloads of up to 22 students per classroom (may vary). Commitment to promoting equity, addressing diverse needs, and fostering student growth. Copy of official university transcripts must be provided prior to placement.
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized instruction in either self-contained or resource settings, tailored to students' specific needs. Create a positive and inclusive learning environment supporting cognitive and social development. Collaborate with paraprofessionals, behavior specialists, mentors, and the broader special education team. Participate in professional development, trainings, and ongoing mentoring. Communicate proactively with families regarding progress, IEPs, and available resources. Engage in reflective teaching practices and remain adaptable to evolving classroom needs.
