Grounded in a deep commitment to the Liggett Approach to education, our classroom educators employ best-in-class curricular practices and differentiated instruction to deliver an exceptional educational experience. Major responsibilities of this position include:
  • Support of instructional and curricular needs of individual students
  • Cooperative instruction integrated with grade level curricula and in conjunction with Lower School teachers
  • Faithful implementation of curricular programming as provided by University Liggett School
  • Thoughtful implementation of project approach work and best practices for young children
  • Partnering with parents; communicating frequently and effectively
  • Exploration of innovative teaching theories and practices through ongoing professional development
  • Provide classroom management using social-emotional learning techniques, including Responsive Classroom
  • Maintain effective communication with students, families, teachers, colleagues, and administration
  • Support the educational mission of the school through varied activities, including faculty meeting attendance and professional development days, committee participation, events, and field trips
  • Assess students using a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor and understand student progress
  • Participate in additional duties beyond classroom instruction as assigned by the Head of Lower School EXPECTATIONS and Skill Requirements include:
  • Commitment to the application of the elements of the Liggett Approach to education
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Collaboration and effective communication with families, teaching colleagues, administrators, and staff
  • Promotion of the school mission, values, and vision
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in elementary education or a related field required
  • Master's degree in education preferred
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching in an elementary school setting preferred
  • Familiarity with Project Approach methodology
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to connect with students of diverse backgrounds to develop healthy, supportive, and responsive relationships
  • Eager and willing to support and to be present in the life of the school
  • Facilitate with technology in the classroom
  • Student-centered and growth-oriented mindset
  • Collaborative and reflective practitioner
  • Alignment with the mission and values of University Liggett School
