Life Learning Center Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Principal and the Special Education Supervisor, the teacher will work with students who receive special education services to achieve excellence. The teacher is responsible for planning instruction and adaptation of the curriculum to accommodate students in the learning process. The teacher will function as the case manager for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), overseeing compliance and facilitating the transition from school to post-secondary life.Essential Job Functions:
Actively communicate and interact with community merchants, local businesses, and vocational agencies to establish and support work-related job skills and placement opportunities for students who receive special education services. Ability to differentiate academic and vocational instruction for diverse student needs across multiple grade levels and content areas. Commitment to participate in curriculum development, Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBIS), school improvement committees, and professional development. Ability to teach academic, organizational, and social strategies to students to foster success in general education and community settings. Ability to develop and implement compliant IEPs and appropriate, data-driven transition plans. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and reporting. Strong background in using assessment and data to inform instruction and document student progress. Ability to utilize and integrate technology in instructional and vocational practices. Successful classroom environment strategies and skills adapted for both school and community environments. Regular, reliable and punctual attendanceAdditional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Director of Special Education, and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.Note:

Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, families, students, administration and community partners Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Demonstrate self-directedness and initiative when given a variety of tasks and responsibilities. Ability and confidence to lead students in a combination of classroom instruction and community-based settings. Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment. Qualifications Valid State of Michigan Special Education Teacher Certification. One of the following endorsements - SV, SA, SL, SE, SM, SC, SB, or SK. Experience working with special education students. Experience with transition age planning or willingness to be trained in best practices. CPI, CPR, and First Aid certification or a willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire date.FLSA Status:
