Teacher:
Lake Shore High School Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal and the Director of Special Education, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment. Essential Functions Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic evaluations of students for the purpose of identifying learning needs and recommending instructional strategies, interventions, or corrective actions to maximize student success. Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs ("IEPs") for eligible students. Supports students and instructional staff in implementing IEPs, accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans. Collaborates and coordinates with outside agencies, service providers, organizations, and governmental entities, including state and federal authorities, as needed. Collaborates with administrators, teachers, related service providers, and support staff to identify and address individual student needs, including the needs of students with disabilities. Serves as a resource to students, parents, and staff by providing support, guidance, and strategies that promote student growth, self-awareness, behavioral regulation, and academic success; serves as a liaison between home and school. Maintains current professional knowledge and awareness of best practices, instructional strategies, legal requirements, and developments in the field of special education through professional development activities, research, and professional collaboration. Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential student records and documentation in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws and regulations. Promotes and encourages parent and family involvement in students' educational programs and maintains effective communication with students, parents, and staff. Selects, utilizes, and requisitions appropriate instructional materials, educational resources, technology, supplies, and equipment necessary to support student learning and maintains related inventory records. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Director of Special Education and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Ability to engage in reflective practice and self-evaluation related to professional performance and growth. Ability to establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and professional working relationships with individuals encountered in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards The employee in this position is regularly required to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents; observe student behavior and classroom activities; and maintain consistent attention to student safety and instructional needs. The position requires the ability to move throughout the classroom and school environment, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and occasionally lifting or assisting students and classroom materials weighing up to 25 pounds. The employee must be able to respond appropriately and promptly to student behavioral, emotional, and medical situations, including crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary. Duties may involve supporting students with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges associated with mild cognitive impairments. The position requires sustained concentration, organization, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced educational environment. The employee must be capable of maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, parents, and outside service providers. Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, and student behaviors that may include verbal outbursts, noncompliance, or occasional physical aggression. The employee is expected to follow all district safety procedures, crisis response protocols, and applicable state and federal regulations.
