Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract A full-time position is available for a Certified Elementary Cognitively Impaired (CI) Teacher, serving students in grades K-2. This onsite role is situated in Sterling Heights, MI, and offers an opportunity to work within a specialized educational setting designed to support young learners with cognitive impairments.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized instruction tailored to students with cognitive impairments and support their academic and social development. Develop and implement specialized lesson plans that meet the requirements of individual education programs (IEPs). Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and support staff, to ensure comprehensive student support. Maintain detailed records of student progress and participate actively in parent and staff meetings. Uphold a safe and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid Special Education License with an endorsement in Cognitively Impaired (CI) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or willingness to obtain and maintain this certification annually. Experience working with early childhood students with special needs is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and team members.
