A full-time (1.0 FTE) special education teaching position is available at Saint Peter Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year. A valid Minnesota special education teaching license(s) is/are required. DCD, ASD, EBD, and ABS licensure is preferred.Position Start Date :

Under the direction of the school principal, the special education teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a flexible program and learning environment that provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplemental aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.Essential Duties :
Teaches content and skills in subject area utilizing curriculum designated by Saint Peter Public Schools and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Saint Peter Public Schools. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Evaluates each student's progress in meeting the course standards. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health and attitude problems. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervises students in assigned out-of-classroom activities during the working day. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.Other Duties :

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) : Current and Appropriate MN Teaching License or the Ability to Obtain a Tiered Licensure Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and parents. Desire to work with middle school students. Knowledge of special education due process and compliance. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.Working Conditions and Physical Requirements :
