TEACHER - SPECIAL EDUCATION
North Kansas City will accept applications from retirees interested in applying for the open Special Education vacancies. North Kansas City offers a one-time $5000 critical needs bonus after 90 days of completed employment for Special Education vacancies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Missouri certification in one or a combination of the following areas: Mild-moderate disabilities (includes LD, BD/ED, MR, and OHI certifications), hearing impaired, visually impaired, or severe developmental disabilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO
The Special Education Teacher functions under the direct supervision of supervision of the school site principal in collaboration with the Director of Pupil Services.
JOB GOAL
To provide specialized instruction and coordination of special education services for individual students with disabilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a case manager in the development and implementation of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. Provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities in both the regular education classroom and separate special education classes or settings. Communicates with regular education teachers and principals regarding the educational needs and programs of students with disabilities. Collaborates with the school team in implementing effective specialized teaching strategies for students with disabilities. Maintains records regarding individual student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, services and accommodations provided, parent contacts, notices, and other documentation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) regulations, the Director of Pupil Services, or the school principal. Participates in student eligibility evaluations and re-evaluations. Participates in the development of an annual budget request for instructional materials needed to implement and support IEPs for students with disabilities. Initiates communication with parents of students with disabilities on a regular basis. Uses technology effectively to implement instruction and to manage documentation requirements. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills. Complies with good safety practices. Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies. Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear, and speak, and must have close, moderate, and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

The work environment is consistent with a typical office/school environment.
