Certified Special Education Teacher Position Overview:
The K-12 Certified Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction, support, and services to students with identified disabilities across grade levels K-12. This role involves developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), delivering differentiated instruction, and collaborating with families, general education teachers, and support staff to ensure students receive access to high-quality, inclusive education. The Special Education Teacher helps foster an environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve their academic and developmental goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Student Support Provide specialized instruction tailored to meet the academic, behavioral, and developmental needs of students with disabilities. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Differentiate instruction using a variety of teaching strategies, accommodations, and modifications. Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum in inclusive and resource settings. Use assistive technology and research-based interventions when appropriate. Assessment and Progress Monitoring Conduct formal and informal assessments to determine student strengths and areas of need. Track student progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed. Participate in eligibility meetings, IEP meetings, and progress review conferences. Maintain accurate and confidential student records. Behavior and Social-Emotional Support Implement positive behavior support strategies and individualized behavior plans when needed. Support students in developing self-regulation, independence, and social skills. Collaborate with behavior specialists and support staff to address student needs. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive classroom instruction. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns. Work with school counselors, therapists, and related service providers to support student success. Participate in grade-level, department, and professional learning team meetings. Compliance and Documentation Ensure compliance with IDEA, state regulations, and school policies. Maintain accurate documentation of services, accommodations, and student progress. Prepare reports and maintain IEP documentation within required timelines. Professional Responsibilities Participate in professional development opportunities. Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct. Support school-wide initiatives and contribute positively to the school community. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred). Valid K-12 Special Education teaching certification/licensure. Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and best practices. Experience working with students with diverse learning, behavioral, and developmental needs preferred. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Commitment to inclusive education and student-centered learning. Physical Requirements Ability to move throughout classroom and school environments. Ability to assist with student supervision and support across settings. Ability to respond to student needs that may require physical activity or mobility.
