Job Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a pivotal role supporting students with significant disabilities in a self-contained classroom environment for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract position, located near Santa Fe, NM, is ideal for experienced special education teachers passionate about fostering growth and independence in students who require substantial support. As the Intensive Learning Community Lead Teacher, you will guide a dedicated team of 2-3 aides while managing a close-knit caseload of up to 10 students, many with complex needs such as autism, limited verbal abilities, and requiring AAC devices.
Key Qualifications:
Valid licensure to teach Special Education in New Mexico prior to the start date. Previous experience in a self-contained classroom setting preferred. Familiarity with supporting students requiring AAC devices, differentiated instruction, and behavioral interventions. Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience is an advantage. Dedication to structured routines and a highly supportive classroom environment. Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead daily instruction, lesson planning, and individualized programming for students aged 5-21 with intensive needs. Oversee and collaborate with classroom aides, fostering a supportive and efficient team dynamic. Implement and monitor IEP goals, academic and behavioral supports, and communication strategies. Create and maintain a structured, safe, and nurturing classroom with consistent routines and clear expectations. Provide training and guidance to aides in best practices for supporting students with significant disabilities. Communicate effectively with families, therapists, and school administrators.
