Job Description

Position Purpose The Advanced Wound Care Specialist-RN, in conjunction with the Providers and clinical manager, provides direction and coordination of wound / ostomy services to inpatients, outpatients, and their caregivers and assures that patient education is appropriate to the developmental stage and age of the patients served. The specialist RN also provides support and education to the staff of Renown Health System involved in wound / ostomy care. Nature and Scope The major responsibilities of this position in accordance with respective professional scope of practice are: Coordinates the care of the wound/ostomy/incontinence/fistulas/continent diversions. Establishes and maintains interdisciplinary communication and team work with all other health professionals providing care or education to the patient. Coordinates and gives in-services to promote current standards related to wound/ostomy care. Debridement including conservative sharp, enzymatic, autolytic, and mechanical Demonstrates the ability to apply comprehensive knowledge in the principles and techniques of current wound/ostomy/lymphedema management. Practices cost effective patient care.
Complex Clinical Counseling:
Continence:
Urodynamics, bowel/bladder training
Wound/General:
Infection control, topical medications, cardiovascular health and screenings, pressure gradient compression wraps and garment purpose and application, NPWT, advanced wound care treatments, wound and ostomy research
Ostomy :
Stoma site marking, pre-op and post-op ostomy teaching, consultation, management of complicated ostomies and fistulas Maintains current with advancement of procedures/techniques and standards of care through professional organizations, conferences, or continuing education. Provide expert oversight and recommendations of wound and ostomy care. Educate patients and families/caregivers on wound care best practices and infection prevention. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team, including providers and other healthcare professionals to optimize care. Research, develop and provide guidance to the organization on best-practices and how to incorporate those practices into order sets and efficient workflow for optimal patient outcomes. Act as a liaison between clinical settings. Function as a subject matter expert for the community. This position is challenged to diagnose and treat human responses to health problems. The incumbent is accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. When possible, the family or those significant to the family, are considered part of the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation efforts of the advanced wound care specialist. It is the incumbents' responsibility to coordinate care between other professional disciplines as needed to comprehensively address individual patient needs. The incumbent must demonstrate the expert knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and meets standards of quality as measured by the department age specific competency standards. Preferred Name Description Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Bachelors of Science in Nursing BSN required within 3 years of hire.
Experience:
Two years of general nursing experience and clinical nursing experience required. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license. Certification(s): Requires current BLS certification by the American Heart Association at time of hire. Certification in wound, continence and/or ostomy (CWN, CWON, CWOCN, CON, CCN, COCN, CWCN, WCC, CFCN or CWS) and/or foot and nail services (CFNC) is required within 3.5 years of hire. Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
