Teaching Full Job Description Location:
ACE High School, Reno, Nevada Position Type:
Full-Time, 185-day employment agreement (August 5- June 5)
About ACE High School:
ACE High School is Nevada's premier Career and Technical Education (CTE) charter school, setting the benchmark for Construction Technology programs statewide. Our mission is to prepare students in grades 10-12 for successful careers in the construction industry through rigorous academic instruction and hands-on, real-world building experiences. ACE students have built 10 semi-custom residential homes, tiny homes, sales office, sheds, affordable housing units, and other large-scale projects. Current projects include constructing a temporary classroom and restroom, with plans to return to residential home building in partnership with industry experts in the near future.
Position Overview:
The Advanced Building Trades Instructor will be mentored and trained to eventually lead ACE's Construction Technology program, providing students with authentic jobsite experiences and classroom instruction. This is not a traditional 'shop class'—students learn industry-level skills by building large-scale projects under the guidance of the instructor and collaborating with professionals. Graduates of ACE enter apprenticeships, work for major construction firms, continue to post-secondary education, or start their own businesses. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to work with and learn the ACE culture, develop their teaching skill sets, and be immersed in the mission of ACE's construction program alongside the current teacher. The new hire will be mentored and supported by the current teacher for 1-2 years before taking on the program fully as the lead instructor.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach three daily classes of Advanced Building Trades (grades 10-12) in a combined classroom and outdoor construction lab environment.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, unit plans, and curriculum aligned with Nevada CTE standards.
  • Deliver instruction using industry tools, equipment, and technology
  • Assess student learning through assignments, quizzes, and exams; maintain accurate records in Infinite Campus.
  • Create a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment that simulates a professional jobsite.
  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and ACE staff regarding academic progress and behavior.
  • Oversee construction projects from planning to completion, ensuring safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Order, inventory, and maintain building materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Coordinate with industry partners and guest experts to enhance student learning experiences.
  • Ability to lift 40+ pounds, work overhead and on the ground, climb ladders/scaffolding, and stand for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications:
  • Teaching license is not required to apply; ACE will assist candidates in determining their eligibility for a Nevada Business & Industry teaching license.
  • Minimum required professional experience in the construction industry ( as defined by Nevada Department of Education for Business & Industry teaching license eligibility - Two (2) years full-time experience or 4000 hours of verifiable work experience after age eighteen (18) in a business or industry position which relates to the area of endorsement ).
  • Candidate may be a current licensed teacher in Construction Technology in Nevada, another state with related endorsement, or have graduated from a college in a major that makes them eligible for licensure (e.g., Industrial Arts, Agriculture Mechanics, or other).
  • ACE will assist the chosen candidate in applying for and completing the licensure process to obtain the necessary credential required for the position.
  • Strong knowledge of residential and commercial construction practices.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate construction skills safely and effectively.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Salary & Benefits:
    Salary Range:
$50,000 - $75,000 annually, based on experience and educational level. Based on a 185-day teaching calendar; opportunities for additional workdays and related compensation may be available.
      Benefits:
